Hey everybody! Thank you for spending a few minutes with me on this last recipe share proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that apple is superior to pumpkin! Except in decorating. I love pumpkins on the porch and just about everywhere in the fall season. So to celebrate and seal the deal I’m going to go out with a bang - my most popular dessert I’ve ever made. This is an old old recipe I’ve had forever and tweaked over the decades. It’s truly me.
Aliceson’s Apple Pie
2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup oats (quick-cooking or old-fashioned but not instant)
2/3 cup sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1 1/4 cup water
3 cups peeled and diced apples
1 teaspoon vanilla
Combine the flour, butter, brown sugar and oats in a bowl. This is your crust. Save 1 cup of the crust and press the rest into a deep dish 9 inch pie pan with your hands.
Peel and dice your apples and place in a large bowl. Set aside.
Combine water, cornstarch and sugar in a small saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring continuously. Seriously. Don’t leave this for a second! Once thickened remove from heat. Stir in the vanilla and pour over apples. Mix well and pour that mixture into the pie pan.
Sprinkle the 1 cup crust on top of the pie.
Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes.
Please serve this with really good vanilla ice cream!
