Well if you’re here you probably are wondering what we were drinking and why Barry can’t remember his teachers. (No answer for the last one, I still can’t understand why he doesn’t remember ANY teachers he had!).

And you’re probably wondering why we were sitting on a hill? Well, we weren’t. We just didn’t realize the camera wasn’t level! Sorry about that. I guess you get what you pay for. (Which is nothing.)

Barry’s cocktail for the latest episode was a Carthusian Sazerac. The original sazerac was a cocktail made with cognac and bitters, among other ingredients and became well known around the time of the Civil War in New Orleans. It’s a historic cocktail that has seen many variations in different localities and regions throughout the world. The Carthusian is one variation. Barry enjoys an original sazerac often but this version is a bit different.

Aliceson enjoyed an old honeysuckle cocktail. It’s a great drink anytime of the day or year but especially lovely for brunch during the colder, winter month. It’s a light and bright cocktail that makes everybody happy and cheerful. We learned about it from Barry’s duck hunting camp and it’s named for the vodka used.

Carthusian Sazerac

Absinthe to rinse

2.5 ounces rye whiskey

.25 ounces green Chartreuse

0.5 tsp simple syrup

2 dashes grapefruit bitters

lime for garnish

Rinse a coupe glass with Absinthe and discard liquid. In a mixing glass over ice, add remaining ingredients (except garnish) and stir to chill and combine flavors. Strain into a coupe glass and enjoy with a garnish.

Honeysuckle

2.5 ounces honeysuckle vodka (Aliceson recommends Cathead Vodka)

2.5 ounces grapefruit juice

0.50 ounces St. Germaine elderflower liqueur

0.25 ounces simple syrup

In a cocktail shaker combine all ingredients over ice and shake to combine for 30 seconds. Strain into a low ball or cocktail glass.

Barry referenced the Pink Sumac Syrup I’m taking for my allergies. You can get some for yourself from The Johnson City Syrup Lady and fine her on Facebook and Instagram at Th JC Syrup Lady. Her name is Jessica Edmisten and she has amazing products that will help you regain health and stay out of the doctor’s office all year!

Okay, I think that’s it. If you have any questions please just yell!
